We get asked all the time ‘How Should I Pack for Europe”. We know trying to think of everything you need (and want) when you’re miles away from home can seem like a daunting task. However, careful planning can help alleviate your stress and if you forget something, relax! It’s all a part of the travel experience!

Let’s Pack for Europe

LUGGAGE

Before boarding inter-European flights, ensure your bags adhere to the correct dimensions. Unlike the United States, where flight staff often visually check carry-ons for size, European airports may require you to place your bags in a bin to verify compliance with their size restrictions.

CLOTHING

Bring clothing that can adapt to various weather conditions as Europe’s climate can be quite diverse, especially if you are traveling to multiple countries. We suggest pieces that can be layered to make sure you are always prepared for fluctuating temperatures.

Comfortable walking shoes are a must; you’ll likely be strolling through cobblestone streets and exploring historical sites for long periods of time.

A light jacket is great for European evenings, while a heavier coat may be needed for winter travel when rain or snow falls. If your coat doesn’t fit in your luggage, consider wearing it on your flight!

Packing a scarf or shawl can serve both fashion and practical purposes, especially when visiting churches or religious sites with dress code requirements.

TOILETRIES

When packing your toiletries, make sure you have travel-sized versions that are TSA-approved. It is a good idea to consolidate your liquids all in one bag, easily accessible in your luggage. Some airports may require you to place your liquids in a Ziploc bag while going through security. Having them neatly organized can help you save time and be less flustered.

EVERYDAY ITEMS

When it comes to carrying essentials while you are out exploring, we recommend a lightweight, foldable daypack with RFID & slash-proof protection. If you are traveling with local currency, a money belt or secure bag is a good option since European cities are known for pickpocketing.

For ladies, we recommend crossbody bags with secure zipper closures. For gents, we suggest pants with zipper pockets or neck wallets. All in all, you want to find a way to carry your items discreetly.

TECH & OTHER MISC ITEMS

Make sure to pack ALL chargers for your phone, watch, laptop, camera, etc., and don’t forget a universal adapter; it’s a must for international travel. While your hotel may have an adapter you can use, it’s good to carry your own.

Remember to also pack your personal earphones for your plane and train travels or for those early gym sessions. Their convenience is something you’ll definitely miss if they’re not tucked away in your bag.

For miscellaneous items, we love to have travel-sized first-aid kits, hand sanitizer, or sanitizing wipes which can save the day in unexpected situations. In Europe, where train travel between cities is common, wipes come in handy to wipe off tables and other items.

PRACTICAL TIP!

If you are planning to use public transportation to get from city to city, travel as lightly as possible since you will be responsible for handling your own luggage.
